Brenna has been an incredible support for Eli. Starting middle school virtually was tough, but Brenna helped her learn to manage her google classrooms and stay on top of her assignments. She also provided essential support on two long-term projects: the National History Day project and the Science Fair project. Brenna helped Eli plan out various parts of the project and developed a calendar and timelines so she would stay on track. Brenna did such an amazing job making graphic organizers for the NHD project that the classroom teacher asked to borrow them.
I can't say enough good things about Brenna's style of working with and communicating with kids. She is upbeat and positive -- even on the days when my kid is surly and reticent. She is also flexible and persistent; she helped Eli make progress on schoolwork every single time they met. Brenna seems to know exactly when to make a joke, when to give the kid a break, and when to double down. She asks great questions, and provides support without taking over responsibility for the task. I have learned so much just from overhearing her sessions with Eli.
Having Brenna work with my daughter has benefitted our whole family. I had been getting in too many arguments with Eli about schoolwork and homework. It's not that I don't want to support her with schoolwork, but our relationship was suffering. Having Brenna work with Eli took so much pressure off of me; she can get Eli to do higher quality work with less arguing than I ever could. Bringing Brenna into our IEP process has been a game-changer. She reviewed my daughter's IEP with a very critical eye and made very concrete suggestions. She really understands the process, and what's feasible, and has done a fantastic job collaborating with our team and advocating for Eli.
